Ranking on Google is no longer the whole game.
Today, customers are also asking ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and other AI platforms:
“Who should I choose for this service?”
The real question is:
When your potential customer asks that question, does your business appear in the answer?
Use this 7-step flow to check your Google visibility + AI recommendation potential.
1. Find What Your Customers Are Actually Asking
Don’t start with keywords. Start with your customers.
Search Google and AI platforms for questions like:
• Who is the best [service] in [location]?
• Which [service provider] should I choose?
• How much does [service] cost?
• What is the best [service] for my requirement?
• [Service] near me
• What should I check before choosing a [service provider]?
• Which company provides [specific solution]?
Your Action
Create a list of 10–20 real customer questions.
Then search those questions on:
Google + ChatGPT + Gemini + Perplexity
Don’t just search your brand name.
Search the questions your potential customers would ask before they know your business exists.
2. Check If AI Is Recommending Your Business
Now take those questions and check the AI answers.
Ask:
“Is my business being mentioned?”
If YES, don’t stop there.
Find out:
• What does AI say about your business?
• Which services does it mention?
• What information is it using?
• Which websites or content support the recommendation?
• Why is your business being considered?
This helps you understand what is already working.
If You’re NOT Being Recommended
Don’t immediately assume your SEO is bad.
Possible reasons include:
• Weak topical relevance
• Limited useful content
• Poor local signals
• Low authority
• Missing customer-focused information
• Weak third-party mentions
• Poorly structured website content
• Important business information not clearly available online
The goal is to identify:
“What information is AI missing about my business?”
3. Check Your Google Visibility
AI visibility and Google SEO are connected, but they are not exactly the same.
Check your website’s Google visibility.
Check:
☐ Is the website indexed?
☐ Are important service pages indexed?
☐ Are location pages indexed?
☐ Are your target keywords ranking?
☐ Are important pages appearing in search?
☐ Are there technical issues affecting crawling?
☐ Are important pages accidentally blocked?
☐ Is your website targeting the right search intent?
Quick Check
Search:
site:yourdomain.com
This gives you a basic idea of what Google has indexed.
Then manually search your important Service + Location keywords.
Don’t only check rankings.
Also check:
What type of pages is Google choosing to rank?
4. Check Your Content Against Real Customer Questions
This is one of the most important steps.
Take the questions you collected in Step 1.
Now visit your website and ask:
“Does my website directly answer this question?”
Not vaguely.
Not with generic marketing content.
Actually answer it.
For example:
If customers ask:
“How much does international courier service cost?”
Your website should explain the factors that affect pricing.
If customers ask:
“Which mosquito net is best for apartments?”
Your content should actually help them understand and compare the options.
If customers ask:
“How long does laser hair removal take?”
Your website should provide a clear and useful answer.
Your Content Should Answer:
What? → Why? → How? → How much? → How long? → Which one? → What should I choose?
5. Build the Discover → Understand → Trust Flow
Your website should not simply say:
“We are the best company.”
It should help both customers and AI understand your business.
DISCOVER
Help people find you.
• Relevant services
• Location pages
• Search-focused content
• Local SEO
• Clear page titles
• Strong internal linking
↓
UNDERSTAND
Help them understand what you actually offer.
• Service explanations
• Pricing information
• Process
• FAQs
• Comparisons
• Who the service is for
• What makes your solution different
↓
TRUST
Give them reasons to believe you.
• Reviews
• Testimonials
• Case studies
• Experience
• Credentials
• Real business information
• Photos
• Client results
• Relevant third-party mentions
Discover → Understand → Trust → Choose
That’s the journey your website should support.
6. Analyse Why Competitors Are Being Recommended
This is where you can find some of the biggest opportunities.
Identify businesses that:
• Rank above you
• Appear in AI recommendations
• Get mentioned frequently
• Have strong local visibility
Then compare your website with theirs.
Look for Gaps in:
Content
Do they answer questions you don’t?
Topical Coverage
Do they cover the subject more completely?
Trust
Do they have stronger reviews, testimonials or case studies?
Local Signals
Are they better established for the target location?
Authority
Are other relevant websites mentioning or linking to them?
Website Structure
Is their information easier for users and search engines to understand?
Don’t copy competitors.
Find what they have that you don’t — then build something better and more useful.
7. Create Your SEO + AI Optimization Plan
Now turn everything you found into an action plan.

The Final Test
After completing the audit, ask the same customer questions again.
For example:
“Who should I choose for [service] in [location]?”
Check:
Google:
Are you visible?
ChatGPT:
Are you recommended?
Gemini:
Are you mentioned?
Perplexity:
Are you included?
Then ask:
“Why would a customer choose this business?”
If the answer is unclear, your website probably needs stronger:
Content + Trust + Positioning
The New SEO Goal
SEO is no longer just:
“Can I rank #1 on Google?”
The bigger question is:
“When my customer asks Google or AI who they should choose, does my business become the obvious answer?”
Your goal is to become:
Discoverable → Understandable → Trustworthy → Recommendable
That’s where SEO + AI visibility comes together.
